(HENDERSON, NV, September 18, 2008) – The Home Health program at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals has been presented with the 2008 HealthInsight Quality Award which recognizes home health agencies for demonstrating high quality healthcare and excellence in performance on publicly reported quality of care measures and the implementation of other specific quality markers. These quality measures come from clinical and administrative data that is collected from home health agencies across the nation.

“The St. Rose Dominican Hospitals’ Home Health staff has been dedicated to providing the very best in-home patient care since the program’s inception,” said Rod Davis, president, St. Rose Dominican Hospitals. “We are proud that the quality improvement initiatives carried out at our Home Health agency have been recognized, but more importantly, we are pleased that patient health has improved as a result of those initiatives.”

The HealthInsight Quality Award acknowledges home health agencies that are actively engaged in advancing care in one or more of the following areas that have been designated as national healthcare priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS):

  • Percentage of patients who had to be admitted to the hospital
  • Percentage of patients who get better at walking or moving around
  • Percentage of patients who get better at getting in and out of bed
  • Percentage of patients who have less pain when moving around
  • Percentage of patients whose bladder control improves
  • Percentage of patients who get better at bathing
  • Percentage of patients who get better at taking their medicines correctly
  • Percentage of patients who are short of breath less often
  • Percentage of patients who stay at home after an episode of home health care ends
  • Percentage of patients whose wounds improved or healed after an operation
  • Percentage of patients who need unplanned medical care related to a wound that is new, worse or has become infected.

By using quality data to identify high performing providers and publicizing the results, HealthInsight aims to help providers improve health care and patients become more active and informed participants in that care.
